Madonna is in the adoption news again. She is reportedly wants to adopt a girl (according to this article on CNN) from Malawi. I have mixed feelings about this. Certainly, she has every right to adopt a child and the coverage is mostly positive for international adoption. However, she seems to get preferential treatment, which irks me to no end.

What’s Scarier? Or Misadventures in Being Unstaffed

The boardroom or the classroom?
I am currently “unstaffed” and looking for my next client assignment. So, I get to do all sorts of interesting things and many boring ones. This week I received a call at 7pm on Tuesday about “helping” at an orals presentation on Wednesday at a bank (Orals are when you go to a company and talk them about your “solution” and why they should hire you). Helping meant showing up at 11am having barely read the proposal and having to present a small section to the bank’s decision authority at 3pm. I did ok… only when I got home did I realize how stressed I has been.
Today, I ventured into a 2nd grade classroom as a part of Junior Achievement. I am not sure quite what I was expecting — but what I got was organized chaos. The teacher stays with you, so I thought she would help me manage the class. One hour before school ends for the week, second graders do not want to be managed. We made it through the lesson (on time!) and they seemed to enjoy it. They asked when I was coming back and one sly girl asked if I would bring a “bag of treats”. The curriculum is 5 X 30 min. lessons. So, I head back next week. Belive it or not – I think the next lesson is on taxes. Yeah… 2nd grade and taxes. That should be interesting.
Which is scarier? I think the boardroom wins. Being stared at by blank faces for an hour far more painful than 12 hyper 2nd graders for 30 mins!!!!

It is late winter and all is quiet. It looks like babies have been referred through March 6, 2006. So, we still have about 6 months worth of applications in front of us.
I have been home for a few weeks working on proposals, creating “assets” (a fancy way of saying things to sell to clients) and have been searching for my next role. It is a little nerve wracking, given the economy. It looks like I will start my next project in early April. That should be confirmed in the next few days. I (and my husband) have been adjusting to living life together. I am getting used to home cooked meals and not feeling like I have to run around all weekend long to get everything done. Nice.
Oh, I want to say – congrats to Bryan and Jenn on welcoming home a lovely baby girl.
Good news – spring starts this week… I am ready for sun, flowers and a new adventure!
