This is was a really small batch. So, we are not really closer to our adoption. It looks like China only referred two days worth of applications this month.
After all of the waiting, all of the paperwork and the myriad of checks, many people ask us “why China”? Why not Vietnam, Cambodia, Guatemala…? Our typical answer is that China has a clearly defined adoption process for orphans.
Over the past several years there has been a growing adoption business. In today’s Washington Post, there was a short article on “The Orphan Manufacturing Chain“. It illustrates how baby selling can be and is big business in some countrys. It was a good reminder to me about why we wait.
Happy New Year to All!
We rang in the new year by running the inaugural Fairfax Four miler race at 7pm. It sounded like a good idea when I signed up for it — it had been unseasonably warm in the DC area. Last night it was cold with ferocious wind gusts. It was so windy that lights were out in Old Town Fairfax, so they had to reroute the race. We ended up running four mile long circles — in the cold, in the dark. Maybe not my best NYE plan ever.
