It has been a long time since We had found or read a book on Chinese adoption. Recently, we came across Chine Ghosts – My Daughter’s Journey to America, My Passage to Fatherhood by Jeff Gammage. Jeff is a writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer and has adopted two girls from China.
The book is ok. Like many other books, I enjoyed the first half about the adoption process, the trip to China and the joys, trials and tribulations of the home coming. However, the second half of the book was about his anger for not knowing his child’s parents or how people treated his mixed family, building attachment with his daughter and his overwhelming love for his daughter. It is summer in the city and that means it was time for Restaurant Week. This time around we had an opportunity to try two spots:
Vermilion - I have been looking forward to trying Vermilion for awhile. Word of mouth and reviews both say that it is very good. What a disappointment! The restaurant week menu was limited, the service was average and worst… the entrees were under-seasoned. We did love the “Peppermint Pattie” dessert. But, that is hardly enough to bring us back for a second time.
Mio- This is a gem! The interior is stunning with two levels and an open kitchen. The service was attentive and the food was fantastic. We both loved each course and would highly recommend the “Shrimp Mio”, the pesto Risotto and the warm chocolate cake with peanut ice cream. Yum!

Two years ago today our paperwork was “logged in”. In other words, the China Center for Adoption Affairs acknowledged that they received our paperwork. It has been a long two years. The big question is when? We really don’t know. At a minimum, we think it will be another year.
