February 2008

I have moments when I am a ‘girly’ girl. I love the Oscars… not for the movies, but for the dresses. I love seeing all of the ladies with the dresses that cost more than I make in a year wearing jewelry that cost more than I will make in a lifetime. It is fun… there really should be more occasions to put up ones hair and strap on too high heels.

Will you be watching?

I just noticed on the timeline that it has been two years since we selected an adoption agency. Wow. I am not they type to get too wrapped up in “the wait”, but this little milestone has made me sad.

There is NADA going in in the world of Chinese adoption right now.  From a global perspective, we are between referrals. From a personal perspective, our paperwork is caught up. With the wait never ending, we are not focusing much energy on anything baby related.

As a positive note – I am home!  I have been traveling since October and haven’t been here for more then a week since October. I have been staffed on a local project, so I am going to have to used to a killer commute. Hopefully, it won’t be any worse than Tuesday when the DC metro area was hit with an ice storm. It took me four hours to get home that day — that is right — FOUR hours to fo 30 miles.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2008 is a Year of the Rat (Earth), which begins on February 7, 2008 and ends on January 25, 2009.  First in the cycle of 12 Animal signs, Rat Year begins the sequence and recurs every twelfth year. It is a time of renewal in so many ways. From New Year to Valentine’s Day, to the arrival of spring, may all the blessings and delights of the New Year be yours.

A Rat Year is a time of hard work, activity, and renewal.  This is a good year to begin a new job, get married, launch a product or make a fresh start.  Ventures begun now may not yield fast returns, but opportunities will come for people who are well prepared and resourceful.  The best way for you to succeed is to be patient, let things develop slowly, and make the most of every opening you can find.  People born in an Earth Rat are said to be logical realists, shrewd, charming, ambitious, and inventive.  Of course, the entire horoscope must be considered when making any personality assessment.

In Chinese, the Rat is respected and considered a courageous, enterprising person.  People born in the Year of Rat are clever and bright, sociable and family-minded.  They have broad interests and strong ability in adapting to the environment and able to react adequately to any changes.

Well, this is interesting. From China Adoption Forecast —

Our prediction for LID 2006-08-03

If China did all future referrals at the exact same speed as they did this month: 2010-05-31

Our best guess – a weighted average of recent CCAA velocities, guessing that CCAA will perform about as well in the future as they are performing now, but might return to previous trends: 2010-02-27

That’s our best guess for when you might receive your referral. Just at a guess, we can suppose that the CCAA either speeds up or slows down significantly, and show you those dates. If they speed up: 2009-02-01. And if they slow down: 2012-02-01.

Since China generally sends out referrals in a batch about once per month, your referral date could easily vary +/- one month depending on whether you just get included or just get missed in a particular batch.

(There is some discussion of the math behind these estimates on another page.)

China has referred babies to new parents with LIDs through 12/27/05 – congrats to all of the families.  To read more, visit China Adopt Talk: http://chinaadopttalk.com/2008/02/04/babies-8/
