August 2006

We received the following email today from our adoption agency…

“We wanted to let you know that CCAA wait time for referral has really slowed down.  They have the following information posted on their web site.

The CCAA has finished the review of the adoption application documents registered with our office before October 31, 2005.

This means that the wait for referral is now about 14 months.  That said everyone should make sure that their CIS fingerprints have not expired (they are good for 15 months) before you travel to China.  If you need information about how to get new prints completed please let us know.  It doesn’t take too long to complete this process.”

So, our wait that has barely even started it even longer. I know, in my head, that it is only 2 extra months. But, 14 months seems sooooo much longer than a year.

LID Stamp

Our Log-In Date (LID) has officially arrived!  If you can’t tell from the “stamp” above it is August 3, 2006 – that is actual date stamp from China.

So, what does this mean? This is the date that China recognizes that they received our adoption paperwork. It is the first step in the process that China goes through match us with a baby. In essence, is means that we are officially in the China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA) system.

Does this mean that we know when we will get the referral package? No… our best guess is that in August 2007 we will receive the referral package, which includes that baby’s name, picture and medical history.  We will most likely travel to China in October/November 2007 to pick up the baby.

It is Restaurant Week in DC – that means that very nice restaurants open their doors to folks like us by offering a three-course dinner for $30.00.  My husband and I love to try new restaurants and were very excited when we were able to get reservations for Galileo a renowned (and expensive) Italian restaurant in DC. Since, trying a few “white tablecloth” restaurants were on our to-do list BB (before baby), I was doublely excited.

All told, I would give the entire evening a “C”. We arrived early and were sent to the bar, where a new bartender and the old bartender were working out some territory issues. The air conditioning didn’t seem to be working, so the entire restaurant was sticky.  The menu for Restaurant Week was very impressive – usually restaurant only give you a few choices. But, Galileo offered at least 10 appetizers, 10 entrees and 5 desserts. Our first course, pasta, was heavenly. But, it went downhill from there. My main course was flavorless and the dessert was ok, but not worth the price on the menu. They wait staff was unobtrusive to the point of almost being inattentive. We have been told that some restaurants really don’t put their best foot forward for Restaurant week, but I was really disappointed. It could have been because I had really high expectations for the evening, but, who knows?

We continue to wait for our LID – or log in date. We should have been logged into the China adoption system already. However, the CCAA (China Center for Adoption Affairs– all Chinese adoptions go through this office) doesn’t believe in email. We will get our LID whenever our little adoption agency gets it next China referral package (a match of a Chinese baby to AAmerican parents). They think they should get one in the next few weeks. So, we wait!

The Look of Joy
